step back in time
as you walk our nature trails in the midst of a primeval Adirondack Forest. Stroll past Rainbow Falls, Elephant's Head, Column Rock, Hyde's Cave and the eerie quiet of Mystic Gorge. Descend hundreds of feet to walk on natural stone walkways and gaze upon eons of geologic history etched in stone.

Experience our most popular offering, the Classic Tour, by adding a scenic raft ride and float the legendary waters of the Ausable River through a maze of breathtaking rock formations sculpted over thousands of years by the river's currents.

                Open Year Round

Ausable Chasm, open since 1870, is now entering it's 144th season - in all four seasons!

The trails are currently covered with snow and/or ice making our guided winter tours (snowshoes and/or ice cleats) an exciting and very unique adventure.  The tours are one or two hours in duration and take guests through the Inner Sanctum of the chasm to view the many enormous ice formations throughout.

New this year is a self-guided option (regular admission rates) for those who prefer to explore on their own.  The self-guided option allows guests to explore the Winter Waterfall Walk and Rim Walk trails to enjoy true birds-eye views of the chasm.  Available daily, 9am-4pm

All winter tours (including self-guided exploring) require snowshoes and/or ice cleats (bring your own or $10pp rental).

XC ski center UPDATE (1/15/14): Unfortunately, due to substantial ice on the trails and insufficient snow the xc ski trails will not open for the 2014 season.

The gift shop, located in the welcome center, is open daily and is available without admissions.  The cafe is closed for the season and will reopen next May.

The new Ausable Chasm Museum is also open.  This new museum features exhibits and photographs by Seneca Ray Stoddard (1844-1917), nostalgic souvenirs, and displays of extreme natural events that have devastated the chasm over the years.

The campground is now accepting reservations for the 2014 season.  Please call 518-834-9990 for reservations.

New: at the Campground & Recreation Center are new Mountain Bike Trails (w/rentals available) and a Disc Golf Course

Also New: The North Star Underground Railroad Museum and Heritage Center is also located near our Welcome Center (same parking) and provides an in-depth experience not to be missed. Our Logo
